Apu Mody is Chief Executive Officer and a member of the board of directors of TerraVia Holdings, Inc. Mr. Mody brings over 25 years of experience and a strong record of financial success and innovation in the CPG, Retail and Restaurant sectors. Most recently, as President of Mars Food America, he was responsible for a significant turnaround of the business covering the US, Canada, Brazil and the Middle East, eventually creating the fastest growing region for Mars Food. While at Mars, Apu served on the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of the GMA (Grocery Manufacturers of America). Prior to Mars, Apu spent six years at Del Monte Foods, in various Strategy and General Management roles, ultimately joining the Executive team as the SVP and GM for the $2.4B Consumer Products Division where he led the development of a long term vision to focus on healthy eating while creating internal and external alignment for a sustainable platform for growth. Mr. Mody holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and an M.B.A. with Distinction from the University of Michigan.
Tyler W. Painter has served as our Chief Financial Officer since October 2007. Prior to joining us, Mr. Painter served as interim Corporate Controller for PMC-Sierra (PMCS), a provider of broadband communications and internet infrastructure semiconductor solutions, from May, 2007 through October 2007. From 2001 to 2007, Mr. Painter served as Vice President of Finance and Investor Relations and Corporate Treasurer for Wind River Systems, Inc., a software company. Prior to joining Wind River Systems, Inc., Mr. Painter held a variety of positions in finance at CarsDirect, Inc., an online automobile sales company, and at Gap, Inc., a retail clothing company. Mr. Painter obtained a B.S. in Business Administration/Finance from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.
Dr. Licari is Chief Technology of TerraVia. Prior to joining the company, Dr. Licari held various positions at Kosan Biosciences, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company. In his last position at Kosan Biosciences, Inc. he served as Senior Vice President, Manufacturing and Operations responsible for the process development and manufacturing of Kosan's clinical compounds. From 1993 to 1996, Dr. Licari served as the Director of Vaccine Manufacturing and Development at Massachusetts Biologic Laboratories, a part of the University of Massachusetts, an academic institution. Prior to joining Massachusetts Biologic Laboratories, Dr. Licari had a variety of research positions at BASF Bioresearch Corporation, a biopharmaceutical company, and Merck & Co., Inc., a pharmaceutical company. Dr. Licari obtained his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology and obtained a M.B.A. from Pepperdine University.
Mark Brooks serves as Senior Vice President and General Manager of Solazyme’s AlgaVia™ food ingredients business and is responsible for the global commercialization of the AlgaVia™ portfolio. Prior to TerraVia, Mr. Brooks managed the global Truvia® consumer products business at Cargill. There, he was responsible for establishing the Truvia® brand as the global leader in its category. In this role, he directed a cross functional team focused on driving distribution through key channels and generating brand awareness. In addition, he led the technology, product development and global supply chain for the business. Mr. Brooks joined Cargill in 1996 and held a variety of leadership positions over his 17 years at the company. Prior to working for Cargill, Mr. Brooks held positions with Colgate Palmolive, Gillette and RNW & Co. Mr. Brooks is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Certified Accountants, a member of the Chartered Institute of Management and earned an MBA with Distinction from Kingston Business School.
